# Read the whole proposal, with each question in its place

Existing dental work & orthodontic planning

Lesson 02 · A complete worked explanation

A proposal becomes easier to understand when the movement goal, the relevant existing work and the separate dental question are all stated. This example supplies those parts together, then explains what each contributes.

Follow the supplied explanation and its completed reading. Use your clinicians' actual descriptions for your own care.

## The situation and the person's priority

Fictional teaching example, continued from lesson one. This is an invented explanation by an unnamed orthodontist and an unnamed dentist. It is not a SMILE\-FX treatment protocol, a real patient account or a diagnosis.

The adult's priority is to understand a proposal about upper front\-tooth alignment while keeping their existing back\-tooth work clearly represented. Their supplied dental history identifies a crown supported by a natural back tooth and a different replacement supported by an implant. No replacement procedure, attachment method, appliance brand, fee or treatment duration has been selected in this example.

## Orthodontist's explanation: the movement goal

Fictional orthodontist: The proposed orthodontic goal is to improve the alignment of your natural upper front teeth. The back\-tooth crown and implant\-supported replacement are recorded separately in the history used for this explanation. I will connect your dentist's crown assessment with the scope of the proposed orthodontic work at our next review.

The positive movement goal is explicit: alignment of named natural front teeth. The final sentence also names the information the orthodontist is waiting to discuss. It does not describe a way of attaching an appliance to a restoration or prescribe movement of the crowned back tooth.

## The implant limitation within that explanation

The implant\-supported replacement is not a structure to be moved by conventional orthodontic forces. That limitation must remain visible alongside the proposed natural\-tooth alignment.

## Dentist's explanation: the separate crown question

Fictional dentist: My assigned question is the current condition of the crown on the natural back tooth and whether any restorative attention needs discussion. I will give that assessment to the orthodontist before the next proposal review. This statement does not select crown replacement or provide an orthodontic movement plan.

The question names an existing restoration and the person responsible for its assessment. It keeps the crown\-related dental work from disappearing behind the front\-tooth alignment goal. It also preserves the difference between assessing a crown and having already decided to replace it.

The orthodontist's review will explain how this separately supplied information affects the proposal. The patient can therefore locate both the desired change and the unresolved crown question without being asked to decide what treatment is needed.

## The agreed proposal, read as one explanation

In the complete fictional proposal, the goal is natural upper front\-tooth alignment; the existing natural\-tooth crown is named and assigned a current dental assessment; the implant\-supported replacement remains identified within the history and limitation; and the next orthodontic review will connect the dental assessment with the proposed scope before the person decides about care.

This is a useful completed reading even though it is not a final treatment prescription. It explains the actual goal, the particular existing work, the relevant limit and the assigned question. Its completeness comes from connecting those statements, rather than pretending that every clinical decision has already been made.

A general phrase such as both providers will coordinate would lose the crown question and the purpose of the review. A claim such as all of the work can be treated would add eligibility that the explanation never supplied. The filled reading stays with the concrete statements.

## Make the explanation something you can discuss

Practice\-confirmed care policy: orthodontists see every patient, including follow\-up visits.

At SMILE\-FX, board\-certified orthodontists see every patient, including follow\-up visits. Doctor\-led planning and preview simulations can give a proposed change a shared reference during discussion. A preview still needs the accompanying explanation of the actual proposed scope.

For this patient question, the useful conversation connects the stated orthodontic goal with the named existing work and the separately assessed dental question. The full practice care model explains monitoring, support, appliance options and continuing care, with individual arrangements kept clear.
